Quick Service Restaurants Begin Responding to COVID

As corona continues to take its toll on our world, one interesting consequence is the way consumers receive their food. Restaurants have turned to easier pickup and delivery options, and Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs) have begun to make their service delivery platforms more efficient.

“Drive-thru visits increased by 26% in April, May and June, according to data from the NPD Group.” The need for quick and efficient drive-through methods has quickly increased. In turn, many companies have introduced new restaurant designs allowing for quicker services, which will likely change the future of QSRs as we know them.

Shake Shack, a popular burger chain without existing drive through locations, recently unveiled its plan to open ‘Shake Track,’ or their version of a QSR with a drive-through lane. This will allow the restaurant to serve an unchartered territory, and meet the needs of a new market.

The more common QSR Burger King recently released two new restaurant designs that include multiple drive through windows, mobile order curbside pickup spots, walk up windows, and 60% less square footage compared to existing chains. These new designs will continue to be needed by QSR to meet the needs of the market.
