New Mixed-Use Development Coming to Forest Acres

A new mixed-use development for the corner of Brentwood and Forest Drives has been approved by the Forest Acres City Council, according to an article written by the Columbia Regional Business Report staff. Cason Development Group will be leading the project, and will be working with Wilson Co. and Garvin Design Group. The development will feature 11 townhouses that will range from 1,500 to 2,000 square feet each, and will be priced around $400,000. The firms will market the residences to target young professionals and empty nesters according to a news release. In addition to the residential space, the development will also feature two commercial buildings totaling up to 15,000 square feet. Cason says they plan on beginning construction later this year.

The site was formerly home to a run-down multifamily complex, and Cason’s original rezoning request for the site was denied in March, 2018 due to concerns surrounding the effects of increased commercialization on residential neighborhoods in the area. However, with this recent approval, Cason and its partners can move forward with the project.

Cason Development Group’s President Frank Cason was quoted in the company’s press release regarding the project saying, “Our team has put in a lot of effort on this project over the last 18 months. We are thankful that Forest Acres Council members saw the vision for our desire to transform this corner on Forest Drive. Our team had many conversations and a lot of input from neighbors and stakeholders in the community, and we look forward to getting this project out of the ground.”
